Embedded Firmware Engineer

About the position:
Centellax offers an exciting opportunity for an Embedded Firmware Engineer reporting to the Director of Engineering.

Centellax seeks an experienced firmware professional with experience with fast paced, fast growing environments.

The embedded FW engineer will be responsible for all development efforts of the embedded controller systems used in our test and measurement products. This includes activities such as supporting existing designs, developing microcontroller software for new and existing products and validating the robustness of our embedded firmware.

This key position in our development team will be responsible for ensuring that the product firmware architecture is consistent, scalable and has a clear and well documented plan of execution.

Objective:
To recruit an Embedded Firmware Engineer with experience in high speed instrumentation including BERTs, synthesizers and sampling oscilloscopes.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement and maintain the firmware and embedded software used in our Test & Measurement instrumentation;
• Work with the engineering team on cross-functional projects to deliver quality products and enhancements;
• Develop a common library of firmware modules for frequently used functions;
• Ensure that the firmware can easily be updated in the field;
• Communicate specifications and design ideas through written documentation;
• Participate in design reviews, both for software and hardware projects.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Minimum 5 years experience controlling hardware with good understanding of basic electronic concepts.
• Experience with assembly and C language programming;
• Ability to understand circuit schematics and digital logic;
• Excellent trouble-shooting and debugging skills;
• Hands-on experience with hardware bring up, system level debug and validation;
• Solid hands-on skills with instrument control through RS232, USB, GPIB, etc;
• Knowledge of IO interfaces such as I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, RS232, GPIB, etc;
• Experience developing hardware drivers for peripheral devices such as DACs, ADCs and custom devices;
• Proven track record of success in developing and releasing embedded firmware applications using 8/16/32 bit CPUs;
• Experience with real time operating systems and distributed embedded systems;
• Experience porting code to multiple platforms;
• Must be able to work independently and tackle challenging tasks;
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Required Education:
BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Desirable:

• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with TCP/IP communication protocols;
• Familiar with AVR and ARM processors;
• Experience implementing soft-core processors running in FPGAs;
• Knowledge and experience with standard test equipment, DVMs, oscilloscopes;
• Knowledge of numerical analysis for making computations.

Location:
The Embedded Firmware Engineer position is located in Santa Rosa, CA.

Status:
MUST be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship: MUST BE: US Citizen, Green Card Holder, or authorized to work in the U.S.

Compensation:
Base salary based on experience.

Incentive compensation based on accomplishments.
